Reflection
1. URGC Farm Field Trips-
We moved poop and rocks.
I learned about gardening.
I hated them. They were lame. The girls there were lame. I did not enjoy the time I spent the time I spent there.
2. Galena Creek Park Field Trip-
The best one.
We walked and studied bushes in hulahoops
I liked walking
I didn't like hulahoop bushes
3. River School Field Trip-
Didn't go.
4. Lake Tahoe Field Trip
We went to the environmental center. We learned about water pollution and the animals that live in the lake. The water quality has gone down over the years, but is still one of the cleanest. The lake recovered from the mining era. The lahontan cutthroat used to be at the top of the food chain, and is now toward the bottom. The center got the highest recognizable award for being eco-friendly, which was pretty impressive. My favorite part was the end in the labs. The rest was pretty boring. The lunch was pretty terrible.
History of Galena Creek Park
The first inhabitants of Galena Creek were the Washoe and Paiute Indian Tribes. They lived off the land, eating nuts, mule deer, fish and rabbit. They traveled by snowshoe and made homes out of tree bark and branches. Some natives lived in caves. They entertained themselves by telling stories and playing games.
Once the white settlers moved in, life for the natives changed. They became workers for them, and adapted to their culture and ways of life.
The white people started a town called Galena. It was originally meant for the gold mining industry, but high lead-sulfate content in the soil caused failure. The townspeople began cutting and selling luber for the silver mines.
In 1865 and 1867, one fire wiped out the industry. Another wiped out the entire township, and all of the inhabitants fled.
In 1931, the land was sold for $10 an acre. A campground and stonehouse warming hut were built. In the 1940's, the campground was wiped out. Flooding was caused by snow meltoff, rain, and lack of trees from the previous lumber trade.
In 1948, a fish hatchery was built, and another flood damaged the water intake.
In the 1960's, UNR built a ski jump for its ski team.
In the 80's a camp was built for girls called WE CH ME
Now, Galena Creek offers education, hiking, and snowplay for visitors

Reflection 5/16
1. Water Quality Monitoring- We went to Oxbow, Virginia Lake, and Galena Creek. We tested water quality and whatnot. Water levels are incredibly high at the moment... I didn't really enjoy it, but that's okay. I also don't remember learning anything new. I didn't like Oxbow. It didn't look well taken care of.
2. Big Basin/ Santa Cruz- We went camping in the redwoods. On the second or third day we went to The Mystery Spot. And old guy fell into Tyrell. He and all his friends had mad bulge. Then we went to the beach and the water was real cold like. Then we went to the boardwalk and talked to bums. After that extravaganza, we went back to the redwoods and then the next day we went home. It was pretty cool. I found a salamander. I didn't like the drive because I felt sick the whole weekend.
3. Painting and Hiking- We went ot Galena Creek and painted with Eric. Then, We went hiking with Racheal's class. It wasn't bad. I didn't learn anything I just ran around on the side of a mountain. I liked it. Painting wasn't fun, but the hike was.

Second Semester Portfolio Reflection
My strength in the class was going to all of the Friday field trips. My weakness was going to the farm and getting all of my worksheets done. My favorite part was Santa Cruz. My least favorite part was the farm. All of the people there are annoying, and they don't do anything until the class comes. And when the class comes, they stand and watch us do work for them. If I took another class like this, I would want to do more hiking and camping. I would like to learn more about environmental conservation.
